7 Essential Oils for Hair Growth and Scalp Health

Hello, my happy nappy crew! It’s NAA Nappy here, and today I’m excited to share with you seven essential oils that can help improve hair growth while also enhancing scalp health. These oils not only promote luscious locks but also combat hair loss and improve the overall condition of your scalp. Let’s dive right into it!

1. Ginger Essential Oil

First up is ginger essential oil. This powerhouse contains a bioactive compound called gingerol, which boasts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These qualities work together to soothe and protect the scalp from inflammation—a known hindrance to hair growth. When applied, ginger oil provides a warming effect on the scalp that increases blood circulation, delivering essential nutrients that stimulate hair growth. Additionally, ginger essential oil fights DHT, a hormone linked to male and female pattern baldness, and is rich in vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids that nourish your hair.

2. Rosemary Essential Oil

Next on our list is rosemary essential oil. This oil contains a bioactive compound known as 1,8-cineole, which promotes hair growth by improving blood circulation to the scalp and increasing nutrient delivery. It also has compounds like camphor and pinene, making it an excellent choice for those dealing with scalp issues such as dermatitis and dandruff. Rosemary essential oil is a fantastic option for anyone looking to boost their hair growth and overall scalp health.

3. Thyme Essential Oil

Thyme essential oil comes next, and it’s packed with thymoquinone, which possesses antifungal and antiseptic properties. These benefits help maintain a healthy scalp by keeping it clean and free from infections. The thymoquinone, along with other compounds like carvacrol, can potentially promote hair growth, and many users have reported significant improvements in their hair health after incorporating thyme essential oil into their routines.

4. Cedarwood Essential Oil

Now let’s talk about cedarwood essential oil. This oil contains a compound called cedrol, which stimulates hair follicles and boosts blood circulation to the scalp. This increased circulation delivers oxygen and essential nutrients necessary for vibrant hair growth. Additionally, cedarwood oil contains alpha-cedrene and beta-cedrene, which contribute to maintaining a healthy scalp environment and enhancing hair growth.

5. Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is another favorite of mine! Its soothing properties come from a compound called linalool, which also boasts anti-inflammatory benefits. Lavender oil can help reduce stress and anxiety, factors that often contribute to hair loss. Furthermore, it contains eucalyptol and camphor, making it beneficial for those with scalp concerns like dermatitis and dandruff. You can even find lavender essential oil in some of the products available on my website!

6. Peppermint Essential Oil

Next up is peppermint essential oil, known for its invigorating scent and menthol content. This oil provides a refreshing, cooling sensation on the scalp while simultaneously increasing blood circulation. The enhanced circulation allows for better oxygen and nutrient delivery to hair follicles, promoting a healthy scalp and vibrant hair. Many of my products also feature peppermint essential oil for its numerous benefits!

7. Lemongrass Essential Oil

Last but certainly not least is lemongrass essential oil. This oil is known for its delightful citrus aroma, thanks to a compound called citral. Lemongrass oil not only smells amazing but also helps strengthen hair follicles and supports overall scalp health. It has additional compounds like citrol and limonene that contribute to its positive effects on hair and scalp care.

Using Essential Oils Safely

Before diving into the world of essential oils, it’s crucial to consult with your healthcare provider, especially if you have existing health conditions or are pregnant. Remember, essential oils are potent and should always be diluted before application. A good rule of thumb is to mix 2 to 3 drops of essential oil with one teaspoon of carrier oil, such as almond oil, extra virgin olive oil, or coconut oil. You can also incorporate essential oils into hair care products like deep conditioners or leave-in treatments for added benefits.

Always perform a patch test before using a new essential oil, as they come from various plants and flowers that you might be allergic to. It’s essential to ensure you’re using 100% pure or therapeutic-grade essential oils, as these are the highest quality and purity, especially when applied to your hair and skin.

Hi Michelle, a 2010 study into eucalyptus oil concluded that the anti inflammatory properties of the oil helps reduce scalp inflammation, which in turn creates the ideal hair growth environment.

  31. http://@hippierenn4029

Great video. I was a little confused when you said peppermint oil has a warming effect, though, it has a significant cooling effect and little goes a long way!

  33. http://@biscaynesupercars

I always wonder what would happen if you just put all these oils together in a bottle and applied it to your hair and scalp

    1. http://@SvetlaNikolova-sk3ot

@@biscaynesupercars3 to one ratio is safe.

    2. http://@SvetlaNikolova-sk3ot

That’s what Indians do. They mix a bunch of oils and herbs together, warm it up and put it on their scalp at least every 3 days. They also do scalp massages and a lot of henna hair masks with oils.

    3. http://@red_24x

I combine essential oils as per assumptions and the amount of carrier oil in my bottle…. I have been using these for years now

    4. http://@biscaynesupercars

@@NowIAmNappy how would you do the proportions?

    5. http://@NowIAmNappy

@@biscaynesupercars must make sure they are diluted properly with the right portion of essential oils to carrier oils

Many thanks! I really appreciate how much I learn from your videos. All the very best to you.

  35. http://@taylorcavin9546

Can you put them all in one with coconut oil or is it more effective to do them separate?

  36. http://@Sam-zp3cp

I am struggling alot with frizzy hair i did a oil mixture of anti frizz with some essential oil and after i showered i still got frizzy hair 😢 help what can i do

    1. http://@NowIAmNappy

Oils alone cannot reduce phrase, it’s important to hydrate your hair before applying the oil and maybe using some type of moisturizer as well.

  37. http://@MellisaEllisa

    Can I get one
